I found the most matte, most high-coverage, long-wearing foundation—full freaking stop.
The only thing that comes close to this level of coverage and oil control is Double Wear by Este Lauder. I am not kidding. But This foundation is EVEN MORE matte.
It's Tarte's Amazonian Clay Full Coverage Foundation. (SPF 15).
The craziest part about this product is that I don't have to set it with powder. In fact, it dried down so nicely that I completely forgot to powder the first couple of times that I wore it.
That has never happened to me. Never. Ever. I ALWAYS have to powder. (My skin is oily-combo and the areas where it's oily, let's just say I'm constantly worried about the US instilling democracy there).
The other crazy part is that it's shockingly comfortable and not drying. I mean seriously, Tarte, how is this possible?! I feel like some laws of physics were broken when they created this. It's honestly almost weird. But I'll take it. I don't need to know the secret; I'll just continue to marvel at it.
So, if you have oily or combo skin, or "normal" skin and you just love an ultra-matte finish, you need to try the Amazonian Clay foundation, like yesterday. Seriously, get on it.
The other thing I love is that it's buildable and you don't need a lot to get ultra-high-coverage. You can apply with a beauty sponge for the highest of high coverage, or a brush if you want a more natural look. I didn't even use a "full pump" amount to get seriously high coverage. I used like half a penny's worth, and it covered a huge zit that was right in the center of my forehead, and it also covered my dark undereye areas. The coverage was so good that I didn't even need concealer.
So there's really nothing more to say, this foundation is insane. It's a total 10. Or even an 11. The coverage and oil-control is perfection. But here's the thing, if you aren't ready for a super matte look, you won't like this foundation. A lot of people think they want ultra-matte coverage, but in reality, once they apply it and take a look in the mirror, they don't like what they see and wish for more of a natural glow.
So if you have oily skin and you're looking for superb oil control, you also need to be real with yourself regarding how matte you're willing to go. I have yet to find a foundation that controls oil while also allowing for a natural glowy look. It's just not there (yet). You can either have oil control and a matte finish, or a more glowy finish that will end up looking oily. Here's the thing, if you're ok with blotting and powder touch-ups, the glowy look is totally doable. All you have to do is keep an eye on how oily your skin is getting and blot throughout the day.
But if you want to keep those oils locked down like Fort Knox, you're going to have to get really comfortable with a more matte look. Which actually won't be a hard thing as a lot of people love the sophisticated look of an ultra-matte finish. It's all about personal preference, and you won't know if you like it until you've tried it out. I think a matte finish can be beautiful and all you need to do to balance out the doll-like perfection of full-coverage matte is to make sure you apply blush and bronzer. You can even use other products that have a bit of shimmer to bring back some of that natural glow.
So to conclude, if you already love an ultra-matte finish, or if you're looking for the best oil-control of your life, please, for the love of all that is good, get your hands on the Amazonian Clay foundation. It just might change your life.
