Review: Physicians Formula – Mineral Wear Loose Powder

I write this review with a heavy heart. I had high hopes for this product. It sounded so good on paper…but alas, it didn’t live up to its claims.

I’m talking about Physician’s Formula Mineral Wear Loose Powder (Talc Free with SPF 16). I got this with the hope that it would be a less expensive dupe of some of my favorite loose powder sunscreens (Review on its way!). I just love the idea of a loose powder sunscreen, it’s such a perfect way to be able to reapply your sunscreen throughout the day without having to disturb your makeup and for those of us oily/combination skinned girls-it’s an answer to prayer! You get to touch up your makeup, stay shine free and keep your skin safe from the evil, evil sun (damage).

So back to the product at hand, it is with despair that I must grade it with an F.

Here’s why, it just doesn’t work. I have tried it every which way and it’s always a no go.

Bare skin: nope, it makes you oily as heck with no coverage, sinking into fine lines and pores, making them much more prominent.

Over makeup: it oddly clumps up and gives you this weird bumpy texture, just awful. Makes pores look ginormous. Makes your foundation/concealer crease. Just all around dud of a product. Oh, and it also comes with a little brush, which in theory is great, but throw this brush in the garbage because that’s where it belongs. The bristles and god awful, so stiff that it actually irritates my skin to the touch and it did a horrible job of “blending” out the powder.

So, sorry to Physician’s Formula. I was shocked that this didn’t work out because usually I just adore their products. (Hello ANYTHING from the Butter line. My god, pure heaven).

So if you’re looking for a powder sunscreen and/or a loose powder…keep walking (preferably over towards Color Science).
