I love Benefit, their products are just so fun and cute and for the most part, great quality! I have loved them ever since my early days of makeup when I shopped amost exclusively at Macy’s. The Benefit counter was always a place to go where you would have fun with makeup. They also have great tutorials and you can always count on their website to provide you with great tips and tricks on how to use their products.
The thing with Benefit is that their products are usually one of two things, it’ll be something stellar that completely changes your makeup game – hello Benefit brow products! Or it’ll be an ok hinging on total dud product. This is a little bit aggravating because it’s like if you don’t try out all of their new products you could miss out on something incredible that will rock your makeup world. You just have to and I’ve learned the hard way, like with their brow products for instance which is my latest example of missing out big time.
I was using Anastasia Brow Wiz and trying to find less expensive dupes, I was also loving Hourglass brow stuff and then I saw the new Benefit brow line but I didn’t purchase. I didn’t want to buy into the hype and I felt like it looked a little too gimmicky to be truly effective…but man, oh man do I ever regret walking past the Benefit aisle so many times.
When I finally caved in…my god did my brow game change. Anastasia brow whiz who?! The benefit brow product (Precisely, My Brow Pencil) is just incredible. I hate to say it, but it’s way better than brow wiz, or any of the other brow pencil type stuff I’ve used. And it’s way easier to apply. It makes doing your brows a cinch, instead of a long drawn out process of finally getting an arm cramp and saying a la Princess Mia “Well, I guess that’s as good as it’s gonna get”.
But I digress, this is supposed to be a review for their BADgal BANG! Mascara. So the story goes, I’ve learned my lesson about underestimating Benefit and I’m determined not to repeat history again. The new mascara launched and it sounded larger than life.
I bought it, but I went with a mini size just in case. (I actually live for mascara minis anyways because the full sizes usually expire long before I finish the tube so minis are a wallet life-saver).
Here’s the breakdown: I have to give it two scores because it has two drastically different uses. For TOP lashes: 3/10. It doesn’t cut it. And it smudges like crazy. It doesn’t hold a curl well, definitely little to no volume increase and when you go in for the second application-which believe me you’ll need to due to how little product actually coats your lashes, it’ll start clumping like crazy.
But for BOTTOM lashes: 10/10. It’s the fricken BEST THING EVER for bottom lashes. It’s straight magic for bottom lashes. I never loved my bottom lashes (here to for to be called BL’s for short) so much! Like not only does it coat them and separate without clumps, it just makes them look so good. It’s the perfect amount of product, no spider legs here and it just brings them out beautifully and makes your eyes look amazing. It’s also GREAT in photographs.
It feels a little ridiculous to have a separate mascara just for your BL’s, but trust. Treat them right and they’ll treat you like the goddess you are. You seriously need to try it to believe it and you will be so happy that you did. I highly suggest going out and getting it in the mini size, I even think that it makes it easier to apply to the BL’s. And it’s certainly friendlier to the wallet too. So go forth and treat yourself, stop neglecting your bottom lashes, give them the love they deserve and you’ll see how beautiful your eyes can become.
