Origins Original Skin Pore Perfecting Primer with Willow Herb – Review

Primers. I say with a deep sigh. For some reason, these guys have been tricky for me.

My skin is a bit of a complicated story and I expect a lot from the products I put on it. I want peak performance while also making my skin healthier than the child of a devout hippie with a passion for health and an unlimited budget for those expensive-ass niche health food stores.

To be more specific, I’m looking for something that will above all, control my oiliness, which is out of control literally always. But the kicker is, my skin is also dehydrated. The worst of both worlds? I’m doing my best to get this issue fixed and by that, I mean I am literally buying just about every moisturizing product I can find. (R.I.P. wallet). So in the meantime, I need a primer that can do both, make me matte and moisturize the dickens out of my skin.

I also am always wanting something that has SPF, but not everyone can be a triple threat. And I’m ok with that, I’ll just supplement with my super awesome HOLY GRAIL of an SPF that I’ll talk about in a future review-and when I do, Holy Cannoli, your wallet is NOT. ready. (Actually, it’s insanely affordable considering how awesome it is).

So back to Origins Original Skin Pore Perfecting Cooling Primer with Willowherb.

I was super interested in this from the second they teased it on Instagram. It was promoted as this amazing pore tightening, smoothing, cooling primer that would make your makeup last all day and be super good for your skin..

After testing it for several months, I have mixed opinions. I do think it tightens your pores, but I’ve found that it’s only temporary, and once the cooling sensation leaves, the pores put on their stretch pants and get back to being their comfy selves (aka they look the exact same as pre-primerized). The promises of the cooling effect are without a doubt 100% true and I personally love this, especially in the summer. I’m always trying to get cool in the summer and for some reason I get extra hot when I’m putting on makeup, I don’t know if it’s from the raw concentration, effort and, willpower or just the hot vanity lights, but I’m always blasting the AC and turning on the fan for makeup time, so the cooling sensation is super refreshing and I’m pretty sure it’s why I am reaching for it most of the time.

Now let’s talk about the good-for-you-claims. It’s got willowherb which is supposed be super good for irritated, prone to redness-skin and it’s all-natural.

I don’t have super red skin, and don’t have eczema or psoriasis which are the issues it’s supposed to help with, so I can’t comment on those. I will say it does help with my redness a bit, but if I don’t layer with a foundation/concealer, the redness definitely peaks through and will continue to more as the day goes on.

When it comes down to it, there are better primers out there. I’m sorry, while this is fun, it lands more gimmicky than anything else. My final score is a C+. Maybe it works wonders for those who have more issues with redness, as that’s what this primer is designed for after all. I definitely won’t be repurchasing, but it was fun while it lasted.
